Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the club?

At this time, we're focused on recruitment of female athletes ages 10-18 for travel teams and our developmental league, and for male athletes up to age 12 for our developmental league.

How much does it cost to join?

There will be a tryout period in October in which coaches assign athletes to our travel teams or our developmental league ($50 to tryout, due in-person prior to tryouts).

When our regular season begins on December 3rd, 2024, the pricing model in the table below will take effect (TBA, we estimate the cost of the season to be $1,100 for club team members; developmental league costs will vary, up to $600 for the season).  These costs are based on our total operating cost for the season, and so our monthly pricing will remain consistent regardless of how many practice nights are in a month.  Costs for travel teams are higher due to tournament registration fees, uniforms, etc.  Athletes are welcome to join our developmental league at any time during the season for any length of time they'd like to commit.

We accept cash, check, and various electronic payments on site, due the first week of practice each month.

Are there refunds?  What about inclement weather?

Generally speaking refunds will NOT be issued on collected payments during the season.  We are committed to providing the best possible experience for everyone in the club, and encourage athletes and their families to bring their concerns to us as they arise so they can be addressed.

In the event of inclement weather, we will schedule a make-up session subject to facility availability.

Where do we play?  How long does the season run?

Currently, we are planning on running training, clinics, and scrimmages from December 3rd, 2024 until April 30th, 2025.  We will hold all practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Waynesville Rec Center (Address: 550 Vance St., Waynesville, NC 28786 - a map is at the bottom of this page).  We will hold one special event per month (schedule, dates, and activities to be determined - working with college athletes and a friendly one-day tournament are in development).

Are there tryouts?  Will you travel for tournaments?

Yes!  Our tryout period in October will be used to develop Travel teams.  We are planning on 4-5 weekend tournaments during the season (January-April, possibly adding tournament(s) in early May).  Generally, there is nothing available locally (yet, we'd like to run our own tournament someday!), but we've been able to attend tournaments within a 2.5 hour drive of our practice facility without too much difficulty.

As a parent/guardian of an athlete, how can I help?

First and foremost, we want you to be available to support your athlete(s) (and that's bigger ask than it first sounds - here is some additional information from USAV if you're interested!).

If you have additional time that you are able to dedicate to the club, please reach out to us and let us know in what capacity (either role or time commitment) that you would be able to consistently commit to, and inquire about the current needs of the club.  For the safety of everyone involved, and in keeping with the regulations of volleyball clubs, all parent volunteers would be required to pass a background screening and possibly other additional training depending on the intended role.  Some possible ways parents can help:

Club/Team Representative

Fundraising

Scorekeeping (requires additional training)

Officiating (may require additional training)

Other specialized club functions based on your expertise

Who did the SMVA Logo?
